Legal framework for your booking
Last updated: September 2026
These terms govern your use of the 4Drive Germany booking service. By completing a reservation through our platform, you accept these conditions in full. We act as booking service between you and local vehicle rental companies operating across multiple locations.
These terms apply to all bookings made via 4drivegermany.com. They cover the reservation process, payment obligations, and your relationship with both 4Drive Germany and the rental company that provides the vehicle. The rental company issues the rental agreement at the point of collection, and that agreement governs the actual hire period, insurance coverage, damage liability, fuel policy, mileage limits, and return conditions.
Any additional services - such as a second driver, child seat, GPS device, or written permission for cross-border travel to neighbouring countries - are arranged with the rental company and subject to their fees and availability. We display the core booking parameters; the rental company controls operational details.
When you complete a booking on our site, you receive a confirmation email and a voucher. The voucher contains the rental company name, contact details, collection address, chosen vehicle category, pick-up and drop-off times, and the balance payment method accepted for that specific vehicle. Present the voucher, your driving licence, and payment card at collection.
The rental company will ask you to sign a rental agreement on-site. That contract defines the responsibilities of both parties during the hire period. The rental company inspects the vehicle with you and notes any existing damage in the agreement. Read the terms carefully before signing; questions about insurance excess, fuel policy, or restricted areas should be raised at the counter.
Collection takes place at an airport terminal desk, a city-centre office, or via delivery to your hotel, depending on the company. The exact location and opening hours are confirmed in your voucher.
At the time of booking, you pay an advance online by debit or credit card. This advance secures your reservation. Cash payment is not accepted online. The remaining balance is due when you collect the vehicle, and the acceptable payment method for that balance - debit card, credit card, or cash - is specified in your voucher and depends on the particular vehicle you have reserved.
Some vehicles require a credit card for the balance and deposit block; others accept a debit card or cash. Check your voucher before arrival. If you hold only a debit card, consider increasing your card limit to cover both the balance and any deposit hold.
The rental company may place a temporary hold on your card to cover the insurance excess. This deposit amount, the card type required, and the hold duration vary by vehicle and are shown during the booking process and in your voucher. The hold is released after the vehicle is returned undamaged and refuelled according to the agreement.
The deposit is independent of the advance payment and the balance. It is a security measure and does not reduce the payable hire cost. Damage, missing fuel, toll fines, or additional cleaning charges may be deducted from the deposit or billed separately.
The main driver and any additional drivers must be at least the minimum age stated in the booking terms, hold a valid driving licence for the appropriate category, and present that licence at collection. An EU-issued licence is accepted; a licence from outside the EU should be accompanied by an International Driving Permit.
Additional drivers must be registered with the rental company at the time of collection and will incur an extra fee. Only registered drivers may operate the vehicle. Allowing an unregistered person to drive invalidates the insurance and makes you liable for all damage.
You must obey all traffic regulations. Right-hand traffic applies throughout the country. Urban speed limits are typically 50 km/h; rural roads permit 100 km/h; many autobahn sections have an advisory limit of 130 km/h, though some stretches remain unrestricted. Environmental zones in Berlin, Cologne, and Hamburg require a green emissions sticker, which the rental company usually provides.
Cross-border travel to neighbouring countries is permitted only with written permission from the rental company, arranged in advance. Driving into restricted territories without permission breaches the rental agreement and voids insurance cover. Toll charges for passenger vehicles do not apply on public roads, but some tunnels and ferries levy fees.
Off-road driving, racing, towing, and transport of hazardous materials are prohibited unless explicitly permitted in your rental agreement. Smoking inside the vehicle typically incurs a cleaning charge.
Amendments to your booking - such as different pick-up times, vehicle category, or rental period - should be requested via email to [email protected]. Changes are subject to availability and may affect the total cost. Cancellation policies vary by rental company and are stated in your booking confirmation.
If you fail to collect the vehicle within the grace period specified in your voucher, the rental company may release it to another customer and the booking will be treated as a no-show. Refunds for no-shows are at the discretion of the rental company.
We are responsible for processing your booking accurately and providing correct information in your voucher. We are not liable for the mechanical condition of the vehicle, the conduct of rental company staff, third-party damage claims, traffic fines, or losses arising from breakdown, theft, or accident. Such matters fall under the rental agreement you sign with the rental company.
The rental company provides insurance as required by law. The excess amount - the portion you pay in the event of damage - is detailed in your voucher. Optional excess-reduction products may be offered at the rental desk.
You are responsible for the security of personal belongings left in the vehicle. Neither 4Drive Germany nor the rental company accepts liability for theft or loss of items from the vehicle.
Issues during the rental period - vehicle faults, billing disputes, damage claims - should be raised immediately with the rental company using the contact details in your voucher. Most problems can be resolved on-site. For unresolved matters or concerns about the booking process, email us at [email protected]. Include your booking reference, dates, and a clear description of the issue.
Our office hours are Monday to Sunday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (GMT+1). We aim to respond within two working days. Written correspondence can be sent to our address in Mitte, Berlin, Germany.
These terms are governed by the laws of Germany. Any disputes arising from your booking or use of our service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of German courts. The rental agreement you sign with the local rental company is a separate contract, also typically governed by German law, and any claims related to the vehicle, damage, or the hire period are pursued under that agreement.
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force. We reserve the right to update these terms; the version in effect at the time of your booking applies to that reservation.
